The Threat Of AI Voice Models πŸ•΅οΈ

Read Time: 4 minutes

The biggest threat right now is that AI is going to make cyber hacking even worse…

OpenAI released their GPT4o System Card last week, which details how they mitigate model risk.

To sum it up – the bad guys can use AI just as well as we can – with OpenAI’s biggest concern being PERSUASION, specifically with audio models.

With the explosion of audio driven by AI, this has been a concern of mine…

Your Controller is going to get a call from a hacker pretending to be your CEO using audio tools to mimic their voice, asking to wire money to some offshore account.

Sounds like a Hollywood scenario? Check this out > a reporter cloned a voice for $5!

Β

Here’s how you can protect yourself πŸ›‘οΈ

  1. Stranger danger! Don’t answer ANY unknown callers. Send everything to Voicemail. I use a cloud-based phone system that helps me block and screen all calls.
  2. Have a “safe word” and second channel to confirm all important requests (wire transfers, sharing two-factor codes, etc)
  3. Type the number into Google before calling it back. Most legit numbers are on the website or out in the wild already for you to check.
  4. Use two-factor authentication on everything. Yes, it’s a pain, but better than getting hacked.
  5. Educate your team about these threats, as $4.6 billion was stolen from consumers, up 14% YoY. The majority are imposter scams.

Google πŸ’” Mr. Monopoly

Β

Google was ruled a Monopolist last week, which is going to have major implications for you.

We all need to prepare for Google search traffic to go down 20-30% next year.

Β

Google pays Apple $20 billion a year to be Apple’s default search engine…

Β

The judge could make these deals go away with a single ruling.

Β

Of course, there will be years of litigation all the way to the Supreme Court, but we can learn a lot from the Microsoft monopoly ruling, where self-imposed regulation hobbled Microsoft until Satya Nadella came along in 2014 and re-energized the company.

Β

I’m going to do a deep dive on this for Friday, but if your business is overdependent on Google for traffic, ads, and mobile apps, you need to diversify ASAP.

Β

My best guess is that marketers are scared of changing platforms, so the traffic decline won’t be directly proportionate to the number of advertisers diversifyingβ€”CPCs will go up.

πŸ‘πŸ» ON the Good news front:

It’s hard to keep up with all the changes in AI at the moment.

The good news is: you don’t have to.

Just pick your place on the curve that suits your organization and time budget.

There is no sense in chasing windmills. Stay focused on those long bars of leverage where AI will get you ahead.
