4 ways to increase your team’s productivity with AI

Read Time: 3 minutes

In the last few years, we’ve seen a massive jump in interest and discussions around AI. The speed at which AI has entered our zeitgeist is neck-breakingly fast, and we’re all struggling with too much AI noise at the moment.

If your team is feeling the AI overwhelm, here’s how you can help them through it – clearly and calmly. 👇🏻

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Make it easy
  • Reduce friction
  • Eat the elephant in small bites
  • Don’t get swept up in FOMO

Make it Easy to Use AI 😌

People often struggle to understand AI because they don’t even know how it can provide support. Start introducing AI by showing someone how the tech can help an area of their life.

For example, if this person likes music, show them Suno. Suno’s AI will create a song made out of any prompt you give it. Fun and helpful!

If they prefer to talk, show them ChatGPT’s mobile app. They’ll be able to talk directly to ChatGPT’s voice assistant, which will respond back via audio.

Soon, AI will be integrated seamlessly into the lives of Apple users everywhere with Apple Intelligence. iPhone users will get the ease of Siri alongside the power of ChatGPT (through a collaboration with OpenAI). Mac and iPad users can utilize AI to help them write stronger emails, create polished graphics from rough Apple Pencil sketches, and more.

Meet your team where they are, not where you want them to be.

When You’re Ready, Here’s 2 More Ways To Help Your Team With AI 👋🏻

  1. Get help from my team, who understands and regularly uses AI! Take this two minute quiz to see what areas your team might need our help with.
  2. Add an AI assistant to your meetings. My team uses Fathom to take notes in all of our meetings and report back afterward with a summary, action items, and stats. The best part? It’s free.

Reduce Friction 😰

AI, when used for workplace purposes, can often come with a slew of security and logistical concerns. IT loves to add barriers, such as two-factor authentication – I’m dealing with this at the moment.

But what can you do to reduce friction?

Maybe you can set up a shared Google Gemini Pro account across your team to play around. Or perhaps you can start by using AI features in tools you’re already working with – like Slack’s AI assistant or Adobe’s Firefly image generator.

Put your efforts into just getting started with AI, however possible.

Eat the Elephant in Small Bites 🐘

It’s so, so easy to overwhelm your team with AI tools, reports, classes, studies, and videos. Especially if you’re an AI-obsessed nerd like me.

Making AI accessible to your team is key, even if that means showing off its potential in small doses.

How do your team members like to learn?

Consider sharing different types of media. Short-form videos, blogs, or social posts are all easy, quick resources that might be less overwhelming and more easily consumable.

Here’s one of my favorite videos of the week, comparing the intelligence of GPT-4o and Claude 3:

Don’t Get Swept Up in FOMO 🌊

FOMO is incredibly common with AI and emerging tech. Once you get obsessed, you’ll be buzzing with ideas and ways to utilize AI tools throughout your work process.

But stop to ask yourself: what AI tools or systems are most useful for my team and work?

This video was another one of my favorites of the week:

Essentially, in it, tech expert Matt Ferrell reminds us that AI isn’t new. Tech companies love to hype up their latest products, making them seem revolutionary and inducing FOMO.

But not much is that revolutionary, so you’re better off staying the course on what works for you, not just jumping on the buzziest new tool.

AI is definitely a loud noise at the moment, so make sure to practice empathy when you’re talking with your teams who aren’t as AI-savvy. Help them by:

  1. Making it easy to try it out;
  2. Reducing friction wherever possible;
  3. Eating the elephant in small bites; and
  4. Ignoring the noise & FOMO.

What’s the most common concern you hear about integrating AI at work? Hit ‘reply’ and let me know! I love to know what barriers we’re all up against.
