You’re moving too slow

I was listening to Jeff Bezos’ interview on Lex Fridman’s podcast about how one-way door decisions, aka decisions that feel irreversible, can often slow us down. These more final moves often fall to company leaders, who have to pause team activities to really identify the impact of each decision.
But Bezos also talked about how, too often, companies have a one-size-fits-all decision-making process that unnecessarily adds this moment of pause. Ask yourself: do you need a heavyweight process every single time? Or could you trade thoroughness for speed?
Open AI’s Sora made a short film
OpenAI’s Sora model uses AI to understand and simulate the physical world in motion. Using text prompts, users can generate videos up to a minute long. Need some amazing proof?
Check out some of Sora’s first impressions here, including my personal favorite, its short film “Air Head” with Toronto-based production company shy kids.
ai voice fraud is a real threat
You should be talking with your Security and Finance teams ASAP about AI voice fraud if you haven’t already. In short, OpenAI’s Voice Engine tool, which is currently still in beta, uses user text prompts and a single 15-second audio sample to generate speech that resembles the original speaker.
While this tool has incredible potential for creative innovation, it’s a major risk to institutions from a financial and legal perspective. Scam artists would only need 15 seconds of your CFO’s voice to initiate a wire transfer. AI voice fraud has been on the rise, and you should put barriers in place to make sure your company isn’t next.
u.s. state privacy laws you should know
My home state of New Hampshire is now the 15th state to adopt a comprehensive privacy law, with the change going into effect on January 1, 2025. Known as the NH Act, the law protects consumer rights by requiring businesses to adhere to certain standards when handling personal data. If businesses fail to follow the law, they risk facing a $10,000 fine for each violation. 😬
