4 things on my mind this week

Read Time: 3 minutes

Today At A Glance:

  • Meta’s new AI creator tools
  • Free tools I’m testing this week
  • Could OpenAI be launching a search engine?
  • The potential of GPT-5 and GPT-6

Meta Added a Bunch of AI-Powered Ad tools

Meta announced a range of new ad tools recently, including:

  • Machine learning-powered creator recommendations for brands in Instagram’s Creator Marketplace to help connect brands with the perfect creators for campaigns
  • AI-based predictions of which organic brand content will perform best when used in paid campaigns as a partnership ad (still in the testing phase)
  • Image Expansion for Reels campaigns, an extension of its AI Image Expansion feature for Advantage+ creative to help resize creative elements for different formats
  • Multi-destination product ads for Reels to use items from your product catalog to display relevant matches to users
  • External Links in Reminder promotions to add more functionality to Reminder ads & prompt user actions

Free Tools I’m Testing This Week

My go-to AI model is ChatGPT or Microsoft’s CoPilot. But this week, I’m testing out an integration with Jina’s Reader API and Anthropic’s Claude AI.

The integration grabs text and images from a web page and sends it to the large-language model (LLM) of your choice.

It’s another tool to summarize web pages into easily digestible chunks of content for your consumption or to use in your marketing campaigns. Play around with it yourself!

Is OpenAI Launching a Search Engine?

Recent studies have found that, though Google remains a popular search engine, younger generations prefer social media platforms for business and product discovery.

67% of Gen Z consumers prefer to search on Instagram, while 62% prefer to search on TikTok, according to marketing platform SOCi. Google ranks third (61%) as Gen Z’s preferred local search engine.

A major threat to Google is the rise of ChatGPT, and recent reports show that OpenAI is likely to announce a new search engine soon – maybe even as early as this week.

But OpenAI does need to add value soon. Google’s next I/O event is on May 14 and is expected to include some AI-related product launches. OpenAI’s search engine could also overtake Perplexity AI, the current leader in AI-powered research.

The Future of GPT-5 and GPT-6

This graph shows the progression of exam results taken by GPT-3.5 and GPT-4, the past and current models used by AI companies, respectively. There’s some pretty wild growth here, especially within subject areas like U.S. History.

Many of the tasks AI struggles with today can be easily doable by AI conceptually. The models simply need to get deeper and smarter.

GPT-3.5 can only handle 3,000 words. GPT-4 can handle up to 128,000 today. Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, calls GPT-4 “the dumbest model any of us will ever have to use.”

This brings us to the future of GPT: GPT-5 will be 2x better than GPT-4? GPT-6, which should come two years later, will be even better than GPT-5.

Many of the current frustrations you may have with AI will come to an end (or at least get significantly better) with an AI model that is 60% smarter than the current offerings. Just you wait.

As always, I’d love if you forwarded this to the AI skeptic in your life. Tell them to wait patiently for GPT-5, it’s gonna blow their minds.🤯
