10 Money-Saving Marketing Moves with AI

Most teams are paying for AI they already have. Here's the fix.

10 Money-Saving Marketing Moves with AI

Your AI bill climbed again. Your CFO is asking questions.

Start with an audit. Check what you’re paying for, use more of what you already own, and test cheaper ways to run expensive workflows.

Moves 1-4: Fix what you're already paying for

Move 1: Audit what you’re paying for

List every AI tool and add-on, its cost, and who uses it. We didn’t need AI inside Notion and five other apps. We could use it directly.

Move 2: Get more from the AI you already have

Before buying another add-on, check what your existing Gemini, Copilot, or ChatGPT plan can do. Where supported, connect it to your tools through MCP instead of paying for AI twice.

Move 3: Try open models through OpenRouter

Test a lower-cost open model on first drafts, summaries, or content tagging. Run the same task through your current model and compare quality, editing time, and cost. Keep the cheaper option where it does the job.

Move 4: Consolidate where it makes sense

AI can help you adapt existing tools to cover more of your workflow. We dropped Asana and customized Notion to fill the gap. Look for overlap in your own stack.

Moves 5-8: Work smarter on every output

Move 5: Batch your content

Turn one useful article into social posts, email copy, and captions in one session. Give AI the source material and your voice guidelines once.

Move 6: Stop writing reports from scratch

Give AI your results and ask for the top three wins, concerns, and recommended actions. Check the numbers and add your judgment before sharing.

Move 7: Test before you upgrade

Start with the free tier or a small trial. Pay more when a real workflow needs the extra capacity or features.

Move 8: Save the prompts that work

Keep a shared library for recurring tasks. Include the inputs, instructions, and an example of a good result so the team can reuse it.

Moves 9-10: Prove it and compound it

Move 9: Speed up competitive research

Give AI competitor pages, ad examples, and customer reviews. Ask it to compare positioning and identify gaps. Check the sources before acting.

Move 10: Measure what you deliver

Track time saved, output quality, and the work your team ships. Compare that value with the cost of the workflow. A cheaper AI bill matters most when the work still gets done well.

Three tested this week

I tested Grok 4.7 on work I’d been giving Claude Fable, used Jev for classification, and replaced tools including Asana, n8n, and Cursor with open-source alternatives plus Claude or ChatGPT.

What CFOs actually care about

Are you shipping value? Lower costs improve the return, but what your team delivers makes the investment worthwhile.

Pick one expensive workflow. Test another way to run it. Measure what it delivers.
